Assisi and the Sanctuary of St Francis

Assisi, unmistakable from afar for its pink stone and medieval appearance, is embraced by the Basilicas of St Francis and St Clare, monuments of great art. Walking around the city you will discover its Roman history, its medieval fortifications, the charm of its alleys and the beauty of some of its views.

The work and greatness of St Francis are known throughout the world, but there are other stories worth telling: during the Second World War, Assisi welcomed thousands of displaced persons and hundreds of Jews found refuge in monasteries. The Museum of Memory bears witness to this.
